Never choose vacuum cleaner based on random opinions, because everyone has different requirements. If you look at the feature list, it doesn't take too long before you feel confused about what each item actually means. The first thing you should check is if the vacuum has HEPA filtration feature. But that's not all.

As the demand for HEPA filtration increases, many brands begin to integrate this feature in their vacuum cleaners. The problem is not all of them are created the same. Cheaper machines may not be constructed well enough to filter at true HEPA standard. As the result, particles may still leak out through the cracks and around the filter.

Careful construction is necessary to avoid leakage, and often this is done by adding rubber sealing. Such vacuum cleaner will be labeled as HEPA certified.

Now, it is important to realize that a vacuum cleaner is not an ultimate solution to allergy. If it's possible, replace carpet with wooden floor as carpet often traps debris.

Care should be taken when cleaning carpet floor. Fresh bag results in strongest suction power. Look for sealed bag for easy cleaning. Also, before you decide on which vacuum cleaner to buy, check if it is suitable for the type of floor you own. Many vacuums are suitable for both carpet and hard floor settings.

Last, but not least, get a vacuum cleaner that can reach into small gaps for thorough cleaning.
