Domestic Fluoride Removal Unit – CSIR – NEERI Technology
Domestic Fluoride Removal Unit CSIR NEERI Technology
Recently I visited CSIR technofest 2010 showcased by Council of Scientific & Industrial Research, New Delhi, at India International Trade Fair in New Delhi, the Capital of India. In this technofest, I have seen a technology as a lay man to understand about what is "Domestic Fluoride Removal Unit" which was developed by NEERI (National Environmental Engineering Research Institute), Nagpur.
What I understood that the invention was - Calcium salt and Phosphorous salt will be mixed in the water and then filter through sand for reducing fluoride content. This is domestic technology and many areas in many states of India are having the fluoride problem in the water. This fluoride content affects the legs and other parts of the body of humans. Many governments were blamed by many civic bodies not taking care of problems of people and there is no implementation of schemes or programs to reduce the fluoride content of drinking water. Many people affected and their legs were damaged by bending in different shapes and they are not able to walk due to this fluoride content in the water.
The NEERI, Nagpur under the aegis of CSIR, New Delhi has developed this technology for commercialization for domestic use to reduce the fluoride content in the house itself. The process involves formation of insoluble fluoride complex with salts of calcium and phosphorous, and filtration through the sand filter to reduce the fluoride concentration in water to
