Don't let Complacency prevent us from changing our energy-sourcing habits

One of the hurdles that the small-scale renewable-energy or microgeneration industries have to overcome is how to sell something to people that they already have on tap: electricity and heat. Current energy supply is reliable and, for the moment at least, still relatively cheap. It's no wonder people are complacent about change. So how do you convince people there is a need to change the way we use and source our energy?

Generating our own energy will help us, as an island society with limited natural resources, to move to a more sustainable future

Part of the reason for consumer complacency is that there is a fog of information surrounding renewable-energy sources and microgeneration. People still do not realise just what these technologies can do, how much they will cost, how we can earn from them and how we can save by using them, so they can't see what the benefits are over and above the "greenwash."
