Sometimes when we are selling a car we feel like we can do everything to get it ready to impress the buyer
. This is just not the case. If your car requires some major work to get it into sellable shape it is recommended that you find someone who can offer you a reasonable rate to do what needs doing professionally. I have been so keen while selling a car that I have tried to plug holes with body filler by myself. Any amateur who has tried using body filler understands that it takes a particular knack to get it right. There is a lot to consider when using it. If you use too much hardening compound it dries before you have a chance to apply it too little and it never sets.
If you are selling a car that looks like it has had a bad job done of anything then the buyer will wonder if you are really the type of person they want to buy a car from. If they see lumps where you have attempted to do some body work yourself then they might wonder whether you have done anything on an equal scale to the engine. I have been the victim of someone who has attempted to change an oil filter and wasnt able to remove the oil filter properly. They had stabbed it with a screwdriver and tried to turn it so it would easily unscrew but they ended up shredding the oil filter. They never told me and I ended up nearly seizing the engine because there was no oil in it. I never made the same mistake twice.
If your car maintenance skills are lacking ensure you approach a professional in order to get any work done to the car to help sell it. Selling a car with major flaws in the body work and/or engine can lead to hassle that you dont need eventually. A buyer may even demand their money back. Even though you may not be required to give them their money back it will eventually tarnish your name. Dont attempt major work alone unless you are qualified to do so (or at the very least have a proficiency at what you are trying to accomplish).
