Normally when a home console release makes his way to a portable platform, the game is either rebuilt from scratch or a very scaled down to better fit the handheld. Keen Games should be commended for trying to deliver the full console experience of G-Force on PSP - which it hardly, just minus any semblance of fun.

One of the reasons that we have let G-Force on consoles squeak through relatively unscathed is because we appreciated how well the controls worked also in the game's paper-thin premise. You have guns, you've got things to shoot, and a satisfactory way to go about shooting them. G-Force on PSP could have axed any number of attractive features in its transition to the handheld system, but instead of cutting emissions or build a new engine entirely, it decided to ax Darwin's ability to use firearms. It kept the lines of dialogue in connection with guns ("Your new toy will not help you here!" Or even "Here, I brought it for you") but it cut the guns themselves. WTF?

Without guns, do you depend on your wussy electric beam sword for the entire G-Force seven-plus-hour history, which means you will be pressing the Square button a lot. There is little to no strategy involved in killing most enemies in the game, and their behavior has been dumbed down so they all can be defeated quickly hammers the Square. It's terrible. And just because it is brain dead does not mean it's easy, either: even if you die in each skirmish is more dependent on not one of your fallen enemies randomly drop health pick-ups than any gaming skill. You will die often and you will lose interest quickly - the story, with its terrible obvious plot twists, certainly adds a little motivation to soldier on.

PSP version of G-Force contains a lot of other bad design choices, too. For one, your jetpack not immediately recharge the battery at the landing as it does in the console version - you sit and wait at the bar to fill up, or worse, miss a jump because you had not waited long enough to recharge. Also in the console versions of G-Force, you can install secondary character Mooch Fly at any time to explore the unreachable areas and solve puzzles. In the PSP version of G-Force, you can only install mooch when you see a message pops up so you know you can (and therefore have to) use him. To have played basically tell you "Hey, Mooch use to solve this puzzle" take out any joy in finding it out for yourself. Also missing are the driving sections and a series of funny moments that the console version uses to break up the monotony, prepare to run through a lot of air holes and not a whole lot else.

Finally, instead of hacking computers automatically (or with a projectile, as in the console versions), you'll play a little minigame wherein you press the corresponding face buttons as they float down the screen, a la DDR. These hacking mini game is by far the worst part of the G-Force on PSP - you will rarely miss a single push of a button, the last almost two minutes each, and you sometimes have to make up to four of them, one afterone, to progress. All so you can control an enemy robot for 30 seconds, clear out a room of bad guys, and open a door. Well, at least the robots can use guns ...

G-Force for PSP takes away joy that could come from being a super-spy guinea pig and leave a lousy, repetitive grind. There's nothing exciting about unlockables, the ending is one of the worst we've seen in recent years and the hacking mini-games make us want to scream. Pick it up if you think you die without more G-Force in your life.
