Drake Tickets - Drake Lends Vocals To Mentor Lil Wayne's New Single
Drake's mentor Lil Wayne may be currently incarcerated
, but the Canadian rapper has been paying tribute to Weezy the entire time he has been behind bars, and Billboard.com reports that the pair of hip-hop stars released a new single on Aug. 3. Although New York's Hot 97 DJ funkmaster Flex aired an interview with Lil Wayne, competing station Power 105.1's DJ clue offered up the exclusive first listen to Lil Wayne's "Right above It."
The Drake-assisted song is the lead single off Weezy's I'm Not a Human Being EP. Drake drops in at the beginning of the track, rhyming, "I want to tell you something that you probably should know, it's that Slumdog Millionaire Bollywood flow" before Wayne cuts in with, "Now tell me how you love it, you know you're at the top and all the heaven's right above it, we on / Meet me on the fresh train, yes I'm in the building, you're just on the list of guest names."
Drake recently enjoyed a career highlight when he held his first annual OVO (October's Very Own) Festival in his Toronto hometown on Aug. 1. Lil Wayne wasn't able to make the event, but Drake managed to recruit hip-hop heavyweights like Jay-Z, Eminem, Young Jeezy, Bun B, Fabolous and Rick Ross for the inaugural festival, reports Billboard.com.
"I want to thank the people that inspired me that couldn't be here. Let's go," Drake shouted to the pumped-up audience as the beginning notes from Kanye West's "Power" sounded. West wasn't in attendance, though; it was simply Drake tripping up the audience. The DJ transitioned into Andre 3000's verse from UGK's "Int'l Players (I Choose You)" before Jay-Z's "Public Service Announcement (Interlude)" came on. Later on in the night Jay joined Drake on stage for his song "Run This Town."
The OVO Festival wrapped up Drake's Away From Home Tour and coincided with the 43rd annual Caribana Toronto Festival, a two-week celebration of Caribbean culture in Toronto. Put on by Drake's own entertainment company, October's Very Own, Drake created by festival with longtime collaborators Oliver El-Khatib and Noah "40" Shebib. When announcing plans for the festival, which was held at the Canadian city's Molson Amphitheatre, Drake said, "I truly believe this is entertainment at a level that the city has never seen before. I'm hoping that it is a safe and magical night and that OVO Festival becomes a tradition every year." It looks like Drake's dreams for the festival came true!
Drake is still riding high off of his debut album, Thank Me Later, one of the most hotly-anticipated records of the year, but MTV News reports that he has plans to release an R&B mixtape in the not-so-distant future. The 23-year-old said during his OVO Festival, "I think I got a great body of work with that tape. I'm gonna do it like I do all my other tapes. I'm gonna make a night out of it. Just make sure you're on the Net that night downloading, and it's yours. I feel like people deserve it. It's hard for me to put out free rap albums these days. So the best I can do is switch genres and put something out for free. It'll be yours soon." So what can fans expect from the mixtape? Rumor has it that it will include the leaked track "Fall for Your Type."
Drake's Away From Home Tour may have come to a close, but fans can still get Drake tickets to see the rapper on his recently-announced Light Dreams and Nightmares Tour. Drake's upcoming road trip will take off from Miami, Fla. on Sept. 20 and stop in cities like New York, N.Y.; Washington, D.C.; Atlanta, Ga.; Chicago, Ill.; Detroit, Mich.; Houston, Texas; Universal City, Calif.; Las Vegas, Nev. and more through early November.
