Dress Code Is Electric!

Fusing a delightful mixture of musical influences and styles

, the one man sound machine, Dress Code, bursts with excitement and talent. Hailing from Dayton, Ohio, Derek Holley crafted an infectious style of music with funk, dance, and rock elements woven together to create a sound which is truly his own. Released in April of 2010, Electricity features seven more thumping tracks, sure to have the dancehalls bumping in no time.

Originally founded as a duo, Dress Code began as a musical experiment using Holley's varied musical tastes. In 1997, the debut album About Time was released, garnering attention with its use on a number of MTV and VH1 programs, as well as independent films. Chock full of pulsating bass lines and bouncing dance hooks; this was just the beginning for Dress Code.

Continuing the project after the pair split up, Holley handles guitar, bass, synthesizer and vocal duties, including all production, beats, and sound effects. A true musical chameleon, he's mastered a variety of instruments, utilizing everything possible to create the next hypnotic dance hit. With a hip hop delivery, funky rhythms, and pumping beats, it's no wonder Dress Code is burning up the clubs.

Ironically named, Holley aims to break down traditional rules and boundaries, creating a sound which is nearly as diverse as his musical palate. The newest record, Electricity, expands upon his previous works, delving deeper into the dance genre, but still using different pop and rock influences. From the moment "DJ" bursts from the stereo, until the final boom of the drum in "Feel the Bass," Electricity works its way through your body, forcing even the staunchest wallflower to move.

"I wanted a sound that would be a mix of what I liked most about music; something that could be groove based, be catchy, and have energy," said Holley on Dress Code. This motivation translates directly into his musical creations, generating energetic rhythms which place him at the front of the pack.
