Just as we thought the snow had missed South Wales and we could all get back to driving at a sensible speed the cold front came in and we are now driving through at least 6 inches of snow to get to work, do that last minute Christmas shopping or getting to the gym in Cardiff.
As I was driving back from West Wales on Thursday night the snow started to fall thick and fast. The most surprising part was it also landed (and stuck) on the motorway. By the time I had driven 60 miles, the roads were looking distinctly white and people were parking up on roadsides.
It is concerning how many people are not capable driving in the poor conditions and either ditch their cars or just do not venture out in the first place. As long as you drive in a low gear, carefully and sensibly there is little chance of you getting stuck on the roads around South Wales. In fairness, when you get to the main roads, snow and black ice is not your concern but more the slush and grit. It is quite depressing how dirty your car gets and more importantly how filthy your number plate gets! The local police are not happy with your number plate not being legible as I found out the hard way when I was stopped heading to SOS Executive personal training. The policeman was very pleasant and happier when I cleaned my number plate before driving off.
The weather is due to continue being white over the next week or so so we may find ourselves with a white Christmas this year, but remember where ever you are driving, take care and drive safely.
