Drumming - Tips For Beginners

Some people think that playing drums is just hitting something with a stick

. Obviously they haven't tried it. Because if they did, they would know how difficult they can actually be. In this article we'll talk about beginners and what they need to understand in order to tackle this wonderful instrument.

Drums are quite complex and they will not be mastered overnight. Getting used to them will require time and effort. For beginners, one of the most important things to understand is that haste won't get you far. Don't get ahead of yourself, start slowly and really learn the fundamentals.

Get to know your instrument. Assemble your drum set, set it up properly, get familiar with it. This is a great way to acquire better understanding of how it all works.

Next, learn how to tune them. There is one thing you don't ever want to do and that is playing an out of tune instrument. At first, you'll probably need some help with this, but pay attention, if somebody else is doing it for you and start learning. The quicker you learn how to tune them, the better.

As said before, the basics are really important; they are the foundation of effective learning, so don't skip them. Even something that you think you already know - like how to sit correctly and how to hold your drumsticks. These are all the foundations.

The biggest mistake beginners make is not taking the time to get to know the basics. They get ahead of themselves and they get discouraged. The number one reason for failure is just that.

At the beginning you must have some sort of guidance. What you need are lessons. They don't have to cost you a lot of money, you don't need a private instructor - although it's great, if you can afford it - but you do need lessons. If you want affordable, quality lessons think DVD.

Okay, there you have it. Drums can really give you a lot, but you will have to work for it. In the end, it's definitely worth it.
