Dussehra Celebration In School
Dussehra, a ten-day long festival is celebrated with great fervor across the country
. It is one of the most important Hindu festivals that signify victory of good over evil. In Northern India, this festival is widely celebrated and at various places Ramlila is enacted on the life of Lord Rama. After nine-day celebrations
of Navratri, on the tenth-day , the effigies of Ravana along with his brother Kumbhakarna and son Meghnad are burnt with a lot of fanfare. As per the belief, Lord Ram prayed to Goddess Durga for nine days and on the tenth day, he was successful in slaying Ravana. Also, on this day, tools, cattles, weapons
and books are worshiped as they represent knowledge and learning.
In some parts of North-East, Dussehra is celebrated by worshipping Goddess Durga and it is called as Durga Puja . Idols of Goddess Durga are worshipped for nine days and then on the tenth day, it is immersed into the sea by the devotees. On this occasion, several cultural programs are held at various
makeshift temples (public pandals), especially by Bengalis across India.
In metro cities, like Delhi and Mumbai, all these ceremonies and rituals have been amalgamated and everyone celebrates these festivals in their own way, the way they love. Even after this ceremonial blend, the cultural spirit stands out and makes its presence felt across India during the festival season.
Celebrations in schools
Schools throughout India are gearing up for the festivity. There remains lot of excitement amongst school children about the Dussehra festival. Varied cultural programs are organized by the schools to imbibe cultural values into the children and also to connect them to the Indian value systems through
these festivals.
Programs such as skit, play, fancy dress, songs and dance on the Dussehra theme are organized, where students actively participate and rejoice the festivity. All the events and activities not just connect them but inform them about the religious and mythological history of India.
Mothers Pride, a renowned
pre-school and Presidium
senior secondary school is also organizing various activities for Dussehra. They are gearing up for the mega celebration. Students with great zeal and excitement are practicing their roles for the skit. They are performing the roles of Shri Ram, Laxman,
