Every day, we can see a lot of electric bikes running on the street, almost over one night, people all use electric bike instead of general bicycle. An electric bicycle, also known as an e-bike, is a bicycle with an electric motor used to power the vehicle. Because of its speed and environmentally friendly, e-bike becomes more and more popular nowadays, and will become the bike of future. Under this circumstance, choosing a suitable electric bike is very important.

In the first place, you should ask yourself "how will I be using it" before you start shopping around. This is a very important question and you have to take some time to ponder it. This key question contains the factors as how far do you plan on riding? Is this bike for daily commuting or casual riding? Which kind of terrain will you be riding on? If you have the answers of these questions, then you can begin to find your personal e-bike which can suit your preferences.

Then you should consider your budget. New e-bikes start low as $150 and can cost as much as $2000. Usually we will choose the medium-priced one. After considering the money, we can start to choose the bike.

As we all know, motor to the bike as a heart to human. In short, if your bike's motor has good quality, then there must have no problem with your bike. Today most electric bikes include brushless "hub motors". Within the hub motor category, there have two kinds of motors:

1. Geared hub motors. The character of this motor is that it has internal planetary gears. Because of the internal gearing, this motor can provide excellent torque but have limitation of speed. In addition, this motor is expensive and the gear of it needs to be replaced when it wears out.

2. Gearless hub motors. The advantages of this kind of motor are as it can last for years because of its gearless and no contact between moving parts. And it has no limitation of speed. But without gears, this motor requires more power to get up to speed. As a result, the body of it is larger and heavier than the former one.

After that, you should choose the range of battery of your bike. Most manufactures will specify the bike's battery according to the distance. Typically e-bikes are offered in 24V, 36V and 48V configurations. Generally higher voltage means higher top speed, but now a 24V setup can also has the same speed of a 36V setup. While you should clear that higher voltage needs more batteries and cost.

Finally, if you take the above points into account, then I think you can buy your first electric bike successfully.
