Easily Master the Relationship between Diaphragm and Depth of Focus of Digital Camera

The diaphragm is not only taking charge of the light dynamic to the digital camera, it also masters the other important key "depth of focus". But what is depth of focus? It is the clearness degree for before or after main body shooting for you. The shallower depth of focus is, the dimmer the background is and the main body can be featured. On the contrary, the darker depth of focus is, the clearer the background and the main body are. To control depth of focus there are three factors for you:

1. The diaphragm: the bigger diaphragm is, the shallower depth of focus is and the smaller diaphragm is the darker depth of focus. For example, the F4 of depth of focus is shallower than F8. The big diaphragm can make the background obfuscation and feature the model much more. The smaller diaphragm will make depth of focus darker; the disorder background will make the interference to the model.

2. Focus distance: the longer focus distance is; the shallower depth of focus is. In addition, for the same diaphragm value, the longer the camera lens focus distance is, the shallower depth of focus is, and the background will be much dimmer.

3. The distance between camera lens and the object: the closer the distance between camera lens and the object, the shallower depth of focus is. If you are using a camera for taking a picture, you are so close to the object, the shallower depth of focus for the object is. If the focus distance is the same, when you are so close to take a picture for the object, the main body you are taking will be much dimmer for you. What is more, we call depth of focus in the front of the object for front depth of focus. At the same if it is at the back of the object, it is called back depth of focus. Ordinary, front depth of focus is shallower than back depth of focus. The area for front depth of focus is about 1 in 3 front of the right focus; the area of back depth of focus is about 2 in 3 back of the right focus. So when you are taking the picture with the feeling of depth, you can make the right focus to choose the area for the front, if so, it can also make the object back of the right focus clear. The control for depth of focus often get the sight effect for one photo, we often use the big diaphragm to take a picture for a person, featuring the texture of the people by the shallow depth of focus way. But if we are ready to take a picture for the scenery, we often use the smaller one, using the darker depth of focus to show the clearness degree of the entire picture.
