The environmental issues that face the world today are well documented

. The wasteful way that we burn fossil fuels that cause pollution and contributes to global warming to provide our energy needs.

The crazy thing is that there are several easy ways to save energy at home and society is capable of doing so much more, in turn saving a substantial quantity of energy and money with a relatively small amount of effort.

One of the easy ways to save energy at home is by turning off the water when you shower or brush your teeth.

Wasting water squanders energy because in most cities the largest consumption of electricity is in producing fresh water and cleaning up used water. Between 70-75% of all household water is used in the bathroom. Faucets that drip must be corrected or you can literally watch your money drip down the drain.

A leaky toilet can lose a staggering 10,000 gallons of water a year. Drippy faucets can leak thousands of gallons of water a year. These are resources that are not only wasted but that you have to pay for to boot.

Fossil fuels have been the major culprit in producing greenhouse gases that confine heat to the atmosphere. Even energy efficient homes normally need some type of combustion to power the heating and cooling process.

Other easy ways to save energy at home would be to replace that old wood stove which granted, is a great conversation piece, but an energy conservation nightmare. The newer more eco-friendly stoves are fan forced and extremely efficient.

Heat pumps are another option that is very easy on the heating bill, while they do require a small amount of fossil fuel to run their compressors they have the added attraction of being able to pull double duty by heating in the winter and by reversing the system, cooling in the summer.

But replacing systems aren't necessary if it is not financially feasible, just being aware of how to make your present arrangement as efficient as possible and you can become part of the movement to save our earth and it's natural resources.
