Educational Kids Toys and Activities

There are a plethora of options when buying kids toys, however many toys are not educational. Educational toys are a good way to educate your child as they play. Children are often reluctant to engage in an activity if they think you are stressing an education lesson, rather than providing them with an entertaining new item. Why not include some educational toys in their play bin to help stimulate their cognitive functions, while engrossing them.

Reading

Literacy is an important skill to have and necessary for children ages 7 and up. Large portions of children have difficulty reading and need regular practice to help them remember the basics and familiarizing themselves with the process. Some toy choices to help them learning to read are the phonics collection of books. They provide a variety of different kid friendly titles that have built in electronic prompters to help children when they are stuck on a particular word.

Constructing

During their childhood, kids should be given the opportunity to build structures, which will help them understand the basics of assembly. One toy that teaches them this are building block sets, such as Lego or Duplo. You don't have to buy the more costly themed sets, instead providing your child with a basic mixed building block set. The intention is to provide your children with a set of blocks that they can use to make anything that comes to mind. It is an excellent way to challenge them and allow their imagination and ingenuity carry the process.

Art

The art category yields a wealth of opportunity when searching out a toy or activity for a child. You can go as basic as providing some blank paper with crayons or as expensive as investing in pro level paints and real canvas. It really depends on the age of the child and his/her ability. If you'd like to get more creative then simple painting projects then compile a group of discarded items around the house, such as old toilet paper inserts, newspapers, cardboard boxes and encourage your child to create something out of the supplies using their imagination. Some basic while glue is suitable to anchor the supplies to each other.
