Electrical Courses Could Reduce Construction Skills Gap

Electrical courses could help the construction sector overcome a potential skills gap

, following remarks from one industry commentator.

The Federation of Master Builders (FMB) recently revealed that 30 per cent of building firms expect their workloads to fall over the course of the next 12 months.

Despite this data, Alex Hawkes, news editor at Construction News, commented that he thinks reduced workloads is not the major problem in the industry.

"People are saying their workloads are alright," he suggested.

"But the unemployment levels are still incredibly bad, so it doesn't seem to be keeping pace with output."

Mr Hawkes explained it is concerns about a skills gap that is the real issue, which could be lessened by more people taking electrical courses and gaining their electrician qualifications.

He went on to add that the sector needs to emerge quickly to ensure people do not go and work in other industries.
