Electronic Cigarettes: A Dream Come True
Many smokers are aware of the detrimental health effects of smoking but still continue engaging in the devastating habit
. The reasons are many. It could be that for the most part, the effects come gradually, with smoking-related toxins accumulating in smokers' bodies over the years and only become cancerous cells by the time smokers are in their 50s to 70s (some smoking-related illnesses are manifested sooner but for the sake of argument, let us assume that the former is the average case). Another reason could be nicotine addiction, which makes quitting very difficult, and nearly impossible for a few hardcore smokers. The rush from smoking that somehow relieves stress could constitute the third factor that compels people to continue smoking even when they know that the consequences of doing so are terribly high. The fourth and final reason why smokers choose to continue smoking is the fact that smoking is a lifestyle preference for many people. Perhaps due to the advertisements of bygone years that glorify smoking as a default habit of adventurers, strong rugged individuals, intellectuals, artists, and sexy, attractive people, smoking has become a lifestyle choice in the past decades.
To combat smoking, campaigners should address all of these issues. Fortunately, electronic cigarettes were introduced to the consumer market in 2003. Electronic cigarettes constitute the single, potent answer to the problem of smoking. It addresses all the health and environmental issues associated with traditional tobacco smoking while allowing smokers to continue indulging in their habit and getting the rush they crave for. Invented by Chinese pharmacist Lin Hok, electronic cigarettes were designed to simulate the actual smoking process--complete with puffing and inhaling smoke. The only difference of electronic cigarettes with tobacco products is that electronic cigarettes do not use or produce toxic chemicals like tobacco products do.
Instead, electronic cigarettes use a clean substance known as the e-liquid. The e-liquid is primarily composed of water, vegetable glycerin or propylene glycol, and food flavors. None of these ingredients are harmful to people's health, unlike 250 to 300 toxic chemicals that are found in tobacco smoke.
To operate electronic cigarettes, users just need to press a button switch that activates a battery-powered component known as the atomizer. When activated, the atomizer heats up the e-liquid. When the e-liquid experiences the sudden temperature change, it becomes vapor. The vapor produced from the e-liquid is totally safe and does not pose the health hazards associated with tobacco smoke. On the contrary, users can puff on the clean e-liquid vapor all they like and only experience the flavor and rush they crave, without the nasty side effects.
