Many people don't realize where a faster delivery comes from

. Some people mistakenly think that one company drives faster, or has more drivers available, or is just in the right place at the right time. The truth is, that one of the absolute most important factors in how fast a delivery made is the response time of the company. That is, how long it takes from the moment a call comes in to when a driver is actually on their way to make the requested pickup. Electronic dispatch is a feature of some dispatching software which can greatly reduce the response time experienced by a courier company.

The reason it reduces the response time so much is because of how it facilitates the communication between the customer, the office of the courier company, and the drivers in the field. The first step of this communication is when the customer contacts the courier company and puts in a request for a pickup. The courier, as soon as they have the pickup address, can pull up the GPS tracking information on their couriers who are in the field. This enables them to quickly and easily see which driver is going to be best positioned to make a pickup.

After that, the courier company has to get the dispatch information to the driver so that they can get out in the field and make the pickup. This is where electronic driver dispatch really shines. All that has to be done is that the courier company pushes a few buttons and the driver dispatch information will be transmitted to the driver handheld equipment. They will receive a notification that they have a new dispatch and all of the relevant information will be at their fingertips.

This eliminates all the time consuming conversation which can result when dispatches are provided to a driver over the telephone or by radio. The other problem that emerges with traditional dispatches is that there is always a chance that the courier driver is going to hear something wrong from the dispatcher. When the information is transmitted to them electronically, there is essentially no chance of an error being in their dispatch information.


When an error is committed during a dispatch, it's going to result in a package being late. If you're worries about always making sure that your clients get their shipments on time, then electronic driver dispatch is a feature that you should want your courier company to have.
