2. How does an autoresponders work?

So what are they? Quite simply, autoresponders are programs that automate email communications using pre-defined variables. They can be as simple as an automated response to incoming email (ie: a vacation or out of the office message) or as complex as a platform that is utilized to manage a list of thousands of email subscribers, sending pre-written messages at pre-determined time intervals.

The basic working of email response system in a marketing effort looks something this. A prospect requests an item of information from a website through the use of an opt-in form located on the webpage. When the prospect submits their name and contact information through the opt-in form, they are added to the autoresponder campaign to which the form was connected. The marketer will have a series of messages set for delivery to the prospect at pre-defined intervals. Most of these email systems allow for "solo" messages to be sent apart from the pre-defined series of messages. These systems offer customizable fields, such as a recipient's first name, last name or address to allow for greater personalization.

By utilizing an email autoresponder, the marketer can keep a continuous cycle of ongoing contact with their prospects. This ongoing communication allows the marketer to continually brand themselves, by offering valuable content to their email subscribers. Most autoresponse platforms allow for multiple campaigns to be run simultaneously. Each campaign is targeted towards a specific niche market.

The other great advantage with these systems are the affiliate programs run by the service providers. These providers offer financial incentive for directing other marketers towards their particular email autoresponse platform.

If you are trying to build an online marketing presence without the use of an email autoresponder, you are working very inefficiently and costing yourself relationships and ultimately sales.
