Emergency flood relief by ISKCON Kanpur

Although rains have been relatively moderate this monsoon season, torrential downpour upstream and the subsequent release of water has caused local flooding of the Ganges River at Kanpur.

High water levels have created severe hardship for citizens of low-lying areas in Kanpur. More than thousand villages have been hit hard. Many homes are destroyed while others are full of water and thousands of acres of crops land are destroyed. Lacs of people have lost their homes and taken shelter on the high way.

More than thousands of residents of Baniyapurva village are staying on the Highway just a stone throw distance from ISKCON Kanpur Center.

ISKCON Kanpur is helping them by distributing prasada- 1500 meals per day, morning and evening, to thousand of hungry people. Our devotees are very enthusiastically distributing prasadam to them.

ISKCON India Bureau Member and Zonal secretary for UP & Rajasthan, HG Devakinandan Prabhu personally served Prasadam to the needy people.

The villagers of Baniyapurva are appreciating ISKCON activities of Prasadam distribution and they have started coming to Temple also. Radha Madhav committee members are appreciating and coming forward to help us to help the needy people.

This is spreading a good message in the society in favor of ISKCON. Even Government officers like the Commissioner, DM, SDM are all appreciating.

Along with teaching the Vedic knowledge and spreading the Lord's Holy names, ISKCON also very freely distributes spiritual food throughout the world. Just like the Krishna Katha and chanting of Krsna's name, the vegetarian food, offered to the Lord, this purifies the heart and the mind.

This helps one in the gradual process of uncovering one's original awareness of Krishna. ISKCON's distribution of spiritualized food (Prasadam) throughout the world is therefore known as Food for Life', which is beneficial for the body as well the soul of each and every recipient.

Srila Prabhupada clearly stated that "this activity" [distributing prasadam offered to the deity] "should be expanded universally."
