Emotional freedom techniques for Word blindness: Part 2

In Part 1 of this series, Word blindness was defined as a condition that shows up in the brain

. Dyslexics face sequencing concerns and in our first session together, we used Meridian tapping to focus on that. Tricia and I worked through two particular events that occurred in school, both concerning her sequencing difficulties. Tricia was also stunned to discover she was able to sequence remarkably easily.

We then turned to pre birth experiences.Research on Word blindness indicates that this is an issue with the developing foetus, so it made sense to direct our attention there.

To this end, Tricia was directed to shut her eyes and imagine what it felt like in the womb. Tricia's imagination came up with feeling physically relaxed but emotionally uneasy. As the round on "this uneasiness" and not knowing where it came from progressed, Tricia added "stress" to the reminder phrases. It's vital that when the client modifies the phrasing of the reminder phrases, the practitioner goes with her. This is in the spirit of doing EFT "through me rather than by me".

As we went through all the feelings Tricia produced from her "baby self", I was interested to notice that it was only when her eyes were closed and she was in touch with her baby self that she felt any of the emotions she listed. Checking in with her when her eyes were open during our discussions, she was clearly not in the same emotional space.

There were quite a few emotions to deal with - Tricia's mother had had a miscarriage before Tricia and had been stressed and fearful of losing another baby throughout the pregnancy. Some humour was introduced at this point with the suggestion of "Even though my mummy is sending me awful hormones, I'm sending my own right back!".

Tricia was invited to choose a book at random from a selection available, then open the book and read from it. Then on a scale of one to ten, she was asked to rate how comfortable she was in reading the passage. She was surprised that the letters were not moving around anymore. However, she indicated that they were still raised off the page and in 3D.Tricia said she felt fairly at ease reading the passage - about a 7 on the scale of one to ten. All that was left to do was to anchor her "mind's eye" and put it under her control. Once that was done, Tricia could read another passage with no problem at all.

A week later, Tricia reported that she was still experiencing print as flat and still, unless she was tired.

On a follow up call, Tricia said she is still experiencing print as flat and motionless - and that this has changed her life completely for the better!
