Encryption can be either DBS or 3DES.3DES, or triple DES, offers better protection. However, if communications with systems that are not capable of using 3DES is required, DES must be used. Many policies will make both encryption protocols available to ensure communication with mixed client bases.The encryption protocol might also be mandated by an organization's security policy.

The IPSec subprotocol, ESP, MCSE provides encryption while the AH protocol does not.ESP is specified by default, but you should ensure that it is being used by checking the policy and by testing.

SPecSNetwork cards designed to perform IPSec encryption are available and can offset the load that IPSec can put on the CPU of heavily used servers.

When encryption is required, the ESP IPSec subprotocol must be used.
