Energy Optimization Is Far Easier Than It Sounds

Like most people, as a normal modern household we waste as much energy in the home as we use

. Doors are left open unnecessarily, heating is left on all day as the last one out forgets to turn it off, and so many lights are left on when the kids go out. It is like a game of cat and mouse, they scurry around leaving the lights on whilst I run around ranting and raving turning them off. It is a game that has gone on long enough and at a cost I can hardly afford.

Education is hard with my lot; even getting them all in one place at one time is a feat in itself. Not to mention talking above the arguing and mickey taking. I think my approach will have to be individualistic and tailored to their individual habits, when it comes to leaving doors open, lights on and taking far too many baths or showers. I will come up with a jar for fines I impose on them, should they not head to my new strict rules.

My green energy optimization plan will start with the biggest offender, the eldest son. He comes in after collage like a whirlwind. He is destroying everything in his path, as he gets food, drink and makes his way, via the bathroom, to the seclusion of his bedroom. He will fail to close the fridge door fully, he will leave every light on, he will probably leave the tap dripping and not to mention dripping milk up the stairs for good measure.

I will educate him whilst doing a dummy run through. We will go backwards in time and he can follow me, whilst I show him what he does every day without fail and more than once a day during the weekend. It will be funny, but I will make my point. The final education will be the amount of fines I will impose for each thing he fails to do properly. I will deduct this from his weekly allowance; I will not be dependent on him paying me, as I would never see a penny.

My energy optimization plan will also encompass areas such as light bulbs, central heating thermostat and automatic timer being fitted. I will also have the loft space insulated along with the water boiler, having a new jacket fitted with more energy saving materials, better than that of the sixties, when it was last checked.

My energy optimization plan will see the entire family educated and hopefully in turn a drop in my energy bills. The next phase will be a little more comprehensive and expensive, as I will purchase energy saving appliances for the kitchen and tackle the expensive outside lighting. This can be changed to solar lights that work of the sun light during the day. When I have enough money my green energy optimization will see the hot water boiler connected to a solar heating panel on the roof, but one step at a time.
