temperature of a large volume of water to a comfortable level, especially in colder parts of the U.S. However, there are a number of lower-cost ways by which you could heat your swimming pool and cut your heating bill.

Solar swimming pool heaters can be extremely cost-effective, even in climates where you might think there isn't enough sunlight. There are a number of different types of solar heating. Most require electrical power to pump water but use less power than would be required to heat the water directly. However, you will need to put up some one time money to install the solar heaters.
Modern gas-fired swimming pool heaters are much more energy efficient than older models, so it could pay to replace your old heater. These heaters are ideal for heating pools quickly and if you only use the pool for short spells at a time.
