Engagement Rings? Just for women, not anymore

. More and more men are getting engagement rings, and why not? Engagement rings have not been around as long as you think, even back in the 1100s only the women would wear the wedding band and the man would not have a wedding ring at all. Things have now changed with most men opting to have a wedding ring and it has not taken another millennia for the style to change again. Male engagement rings are growing in popularity and may soon become the norm.

With many men not wearing any form of jewellery or rings, getting them to wear the more familiar wedding ring may be hard, let along a piece of more bespoke jewellery, such as engagement rings. This has led some to use the male engagement ring as a training ring, to give them some practice getting used to the idea, in time for the big day. There is still no set rules in regards to which finger the man should wear the ring on, so if you are going for the training ring idea then it is probably best for him to wear the engagement ring on the traditional ring finger, on his left hand. It is equally acceptable to wear it on the ring finger on the right hand, also many men are opting for the little finger on either hand; it is really a personal choice.

Another reason that male engagement rings are becoming ever more popular is the message it sends, for years women have used engagement rings as a message that they are taken, and have made a commitment, now it is time for men to harness the same tool. The engagement ring can also be used as a style statement, allowing men to show of their style and demonstrate that they are keeping up with the current trends.

Many companies out there cater for male engagement rings, offering bespoke jewellery in a range of materials, styles and prices. Titanium is the material leading the market at the moment; most notably due to its association with masculinity, strength, technology and prestige. When it comes to the price tag, the jury is still out on who should pay, usually the ladys engagement ring is paid for by the man, along with their wedding band, women in return then pay for the mans wedding band. Although with times changing and no rules set in stone in terms of who pays for the mans engagement ring, like all the other decisions it is ultimately up to the couple.

With this being a new trend and so many things still undecided you could be the one setting the rules.
