been dispatched to them, they want to be able to know that their parcel is with the courier and be able to know when it will be with them. Mobile delivery software is something which most courier services have in place, this is because it allows them to know where each parcel is at any given time. When parcels are received they are given a barcode and scanned into the system, this barcode is then scanned at each section of the delivery process, if a parcel was to go missing they would know where it was last known to be and the search for the missing parcel would begin there, it could be that a parcel has simply been misplaced of that it has ended up going in the wrong direction to where it should be, and this allows it to easily be found.

Each driver has their own mobile delivery software handset which allows them to scan each parcel which is loaded on to their van, this will notify the system that the parcel is out for delivery. When the driver delivers a parcel they will have to scan the parcel again and a signature will be required from the receiver to show that they have received the parcel, their signature will be sent back to the main system and recorded on file. If any discrepancies occur then the courier will be able to inform them of who signed for the parcel along with the date and time it was delivered. When a parcel is signed for by a neighbour a card is left for the customer informing them of this so that they know their parcel hasnt gone missing, it will also be shown on the system if they choose to track their parcel. If there is no one available to take the parcel then it will be taken back to the depot, again a card will be left for them either informing them when delivery will be attempted again or asking them to rearrange the delivery for a day convenient for them.

Each mobile handset has GPS fitted which means that the courier company can know where their drivers are at all times, if they needed to fit in an extra delivery or a pickup they would be able to see which driver is in the best location and ask them to change their route so they can include the new task.

Mobile delivery software allows for companies to use their resources to the very best of their ability, rather than wasting time having to search for parcels they will be able to simply login to the main system and see where a parcel is. By knowing the location of all parcels it reduces the risk of parcels going missing and when they do so, it is much easier to discover their possible location due to the last known whereabouts of the parcel.

If you are wanting to send an expensive item through the post there is no doubt that you will send for it recorded so that the receiver can track it and know that their parcel is safe at all times, by sending parcels with tracked delivery it means the sender can relax once it is out of their hands. If the parcel was to go missing it would be out of their control because the receiver knows it has entered the delivery system and so they would have to take up any issues with the courier.
