In the first half of the 16th century, there was some damage to this clock tower due to an earthquake. The tower was on the verge of falling. The clock tower was brought back to its present position after massive restoration job. In 1900s, the tower again collapsed. This time the tower was rebuilt from scratch and just identical to the original tower. One can have a magnificent view of the St Marks Square from the top of the tower.
