A good host is gracious and looks for ways to make their guests feel at home. If you have a guest room and need some ideas to make the area that your guests will be staying more inviting, consider the following tips.

To begin, be sure that guests feel as if the space they inhabit is actually there for them. This means that any junk you may have stored in the room when it wasn't being used is stored somewhere else. Declutter nightstands and be sure they have at least a couple of empty drawers to place their things.

One of the nicest things about hotels is the clean, pressed towels and sheets. Offer the same for your guests. If clean sheets have been sitting unused for a while, rewash them. The same holds true for towels. You'll also want to wash new linens before use.

Toiletries should be provided and readily available for your guests to use. Put them where they can easily be found in the guest bathroom. Keep extra toothbrushes, soap, and razors, things your guests may forget to bring.

Getting ready in the morning is much easier when your guests wake on time, and have the use of facilities. An extra mirror is a good idea when more than one person is staying in the room. An alarm clock allows your guest remain connected, and in control (at least of wakeup time).

Provide lighting that will make the room feel cheerful, as opposed to drab. Balance natural and artificial lights can give the room a cozy feel and overhead lights for reading are a must.

With the amount of traveling that people do these days, the laptop usually makes the trip with them. Offering your guests a nice seating area where they can get work done is invaluable. A reading area or better yet, a desk with chair will be greatly appreciated by those you entertain, and will certainly make you the gracious host.
