Entry And Exit To Costa Rica

Costa Rica is one country where there is a wealth of opportunities

. This South American country is among the best areas to either travel or invest in for the future. There are basic requirements though to easily travel to and out of the country.

The first requirement is to have a valid passport that has an expiration of at least six months prior to entry into the country. The passport needs to be in good order to have no issue with regards to immigration and customs officials in Costa Rica.

When entering the country, depending on the nationality of the individual, is allowed to enter and remain in the country for ninety (90) days. When the individual wishes to extend, the visa holder must leave the country and then re-enter Costa Rica. This new entry allows for another ninety (90) days but the correct procedure must be observed to prevent any issues concerning immigration procedures. One needs to avoid being tagged as a perpetual tourist and thus be subjected to expulsion proceedings and be refused further readmission into the country.

When traveling with children of minor age, especially when traveling without their parents, the traveler is required to carry a notarized letter from the non-traveling parent authorizing travel to and from Costa Rica on the dates of travel and itinerary. Without this document, the minor child may not be allowed to leave the country of origin and be refused entry into Costa Rica.

When arriving at the airport in Costa Rica, the first step is to proceed to immigration. The individual would then present all travel documentation to the immigrations officer for review and verification. Barring any issues, the whole process of immigration verification may take between ten and twenty minutes. From there, the traveler would be directed to the baggage claim area where your baggage can be retrieved, should there be again no issue as to the baggage you have supposed to have traveled with.

With your baggage in tow, you would then be directed towards the Customs area for inspection of your baggage and other paraphernalia. Like any other airport, illegal drugs, firearms or other prohibited substances would be confiscated when found on the spot and the possessor would be subjected to further procedures and be liable for violation of existing laws. Do remember that despite your citizenship, you would be subjected to Costa Rican laws and one aspect of this country's criminal laws is that you are guilty under the law unless proven otherwise.

When exiting Costa Rica, one of the first things to do is payment of a departure tax. This tax costs US$26.00 and after payment, you would be directed towards Customs inspection area where your baggage would be inspected. From there, after inspection of all your travel documents, you would be directed to your gate and be allowed unto your plane to leave Costa Rica.
