Hearing instruments can become quite expensive and a lot of the insurance companies are not willing to cover the cost involved in obtaining one. Some of the states have passed laws that are requiring them to cover the cost of the listening device, but it is not the case everywhere. The aids that go behind the ear will normally consist of an ear mold, shell and tube sections. This particular type of aid will need a stronger battery and they are also composed of a softer material, not to mention they can be adjusted easily compared to other hearing aids on the market. There is a tube that helps to carry the sound inside of the ear canal.

Digital versus Analog

An analog hearing instrument works to amplify the various frequencies in the same manner, and they normally require you to be able to change the volumes up and down to adjust the sounds. However, they are more affordable than their digital counterparts. The digital hearing units work to help amplify the sounds based on their individual volumes but they can be more costly in the long run.

These are the aids available on the market today. Since all of the components are wrapped up in the small casing that rests inside of the ear canal, they are barely detectable. They are made for either ear. Someone who has severe hearing loss would not be a candidate for this type of device.

The in the canal unit is actually a little bigger than the completely in the canal units. They rest nicely inside of the ear canal and work great for mild or moderate degrees of hearing loss.

In the Ear

This particular style is a little larger and easier to handle. They have a lot more features and they are able to handle a larger sound amplification device. People with various degrees of hearing loss will be able to benefit from this particular device.
