The zoo and park are spread across 300 acres of land in the uptown area, near the Tulane and Loyola universities. This land was utilized for the 1857 Worlds Fair and later became a sugar plantation site. It was on this land that sugar was first granulated.

This sprawling park now includes the Audubon Park Golf Course and is beautifully landscaped with lovely oaks and gazebos. You may also utilize the state-of-art exercising facilities available at the park. With a 4.5 star rating and a 62 - hole scenic course, Audubon Park is a treat for visitors. The loop around the golf course is completely free from any traffic and is frequented by in-line skaters, joggers and cyclists. Horseback riding and tennis facilities are also available at the site. With the zoo adjacent to the park, you will enjoy an entire day in the area. City Park City Park is 1500 acres of natural beauty and fun-filled activities for the entire family. It is the fifth largest urban park in the United States of America. The panorama of the City Park includes lovely landscaped botanical gardens, a conservatory, fabulous outdoor recreational activities, and the marvelous New Orleans Museum of Art. The Botanical Gardens in the park throw light on the cultivation process that maintains the park's beautiful flora.

The Train Gardena features a colossal train set running on a 1300 foot track. This is a big hit with children. The Children Storyland is another favorite of all kids visiting the park. The amusement park features a carousel to keep the kids jumping with glee. The City Park offers abundant outdoor activities such as boating, tennis, horseback riding, and golf. This will keep the entire family happily occupied. The famous Bayou Oaks Golf Facility has a two-story lighted driving range and 4 eighteen-hole golf courses. It is located in the centre of the City Park.

The park also contains the New Orleans Museum of Art. The museum is a visual delight and houses over 40,000 pieces of African, American, Japanese, and French artwork. An entrance fee is charged on all days, except for Thursday, when the public is admitted for free. The park features concerts, art events, and films on this day, as well.
