Exploring The Myths About Making A Career Choice Part 3
This article is part 3 of the article that explores the myths surrounding the choice of a career
. Seven myths about making a career choice were discussed in the previous parts. In this article, three more myths are discussed in detail.
Myth #8: If xyz person is happy in a particular occupation, I will also be happy
It is easier to be influenced by someone close to you when it comes to making a career choice. You see your best friend, brother/sister, neighbor or anyone else close to you, happy and satisfied with their occupation and you arrive at the conclusion that if s/he can be happy, so can I. However, it is important to remember that each individual is different. Each person has his/her own perspective, interests, hobbies that make him/her unique. It is therefore, important to find out whether you would be as happy as they are rather than concluding the other way around without any exploration.
Myth #9: Things will automatically fall into place once I choose my field
Ok, so now you have finalized your career and you know what you want to do. But do not make the mistake of assuming that everything will automatically fall into place. You still need to work out a career plan, update your skills and knowledge, obtain an educational qualification, etc. in order to actually succeed in your field.
Myth #10: I need to have first-hand experience to learn about an occupation
There is nothing like a first-hand experience when it comes to learning about your chosen career field. However, that is not the only way to learn about your field. Internet is a good resource and if you search well, you will usually find a lot of information regarding your chosen field. Print resources also can be checked. Informational interviews also can be conducted
