Face Lift After Surgery Care

A face lift is a cosmetic procedure that an individual of any gender can undergo

. The goal of this operation is to improve the appearance and looks of the individual. There are several methods of going about this operation. The implementation of each technique is based on the extent of the improvement that the patient wishes to undergo and what is required as recommended by the surgeon. The results are achieved by the trimming of excess skin, fat and tissues which may mar the general appearance of the person causing him or her to look old or haggard. Facial skin and muscles are tightened to reach the appearance that the patient initially desired.

Post Operative Care

Immediately after a full face lift operation, the doctor will usually recommend loose bandaging of the entire head concentrating on the face. This is to protect that affected area from too much swelling and bruising which may hamper faster healing. Medication might be prescribed depending on the extent of the pain and discomfort that the patient may be able to bear. Doctors do recommend not waiting for the pain to hit fully before taking pain relievers because it may be too late and the patient may feel the need to keep on touching the place where the pain or discomfort has struck.

The bandages around the head can be taken off after just a few days and dressings will replace any part which may need it. It is not advisable to wet the dressing unnecessarily because this can cause the incisions to heal slowly. The surgeon will give notice when the incisions and wounds can be exposed to a shower or a bath when the appropriate time comes. Swelling can be reduced by elevating the head especially during sleep or rest. It is best to reduce head movement or facial touching for the first week after the face lift in order to prevent infections from developing and to minimize the swelling that will occur. The bandages, dressings and stitches will be removed within the first week after the procedure.

Tips

Applying a cold compress on the area most uncomfortable may alleviate the discomfort but care should be done when doing so. Sleeping with the entire head elevated helps to reduce the possibility of swelling and bruising. Depending on the technique used for the face lift operation, activity in and around the head will be limited, such as blow drying the hair, wearing head gear or tying the hair.
