Facebook For Business. Really?
Last night my 17 year old daughter realized she was hungry and wanted to go to a restaurant to eat
. It was late so she asked me if Moore's Barbecue was still open. Before I could say, "Google it!" and before my mother-in-law could finish her question, "Where's the yellow pages?" my daughter exclaimed, "I'll find them on Facebook!"
She recalled driving past the restaurant earlier in the week and seeing a sign, "Find Us On Facebook". At the time she said to herself, "Why would anyone want to have a restaurant for a friend?" After a quick search she found the Moore's Barbecue Facebook page. And to her surprise, not only did they post their hours (they were still open), but their entire menu was displayed with photos of each dish.
While on the page she subscribed to their weekly specials. Now she will be notified each week of their specials. In this case, my daughter was already a loyal customer; however, she may now frequent the restaurant more often because she is receiving the weekly specials. The best part is she wants to receive this information and welcomes it in her email inbox, Twitter, and Facebook. And don't be fooled by her age. The fastest growing demographic of facebook users is adults over the age of 50! All of your customers and quickly becoming facebook savvy.
I've seen many brick and mortar business participating in this as well as businesses that conduct ecommerce. They offer sales, discounts, special promotions among many other perks of becoming their fan. Recently, Lowe's offered some special discounts only to their facebook fans. There are any mother instances of this and this is becoming increasingly popular.
One other consideration of getting your business on facebook is that facebook is everywhere. Literally. With the proliferation of smartphones, more people are accessing facebook on the go than they ever have before. In fact, almost 200 million facebook users only access facebook via their mobile app. My kids do this on my phone all the time.
If they have the facebook app, they can find you. If they are on their computer, they can find you. Basically anyone who has an internet connection anywhere can find you on facebook. So why wouldn't you have a business page? The age of not wanting too much information about you on the internet is gone. Now it's all about the ease and availability of accessing any sort of information. Anywhere. Anytime. Facebook for business? Really!
