Faith; What Cannot be Proven Cannot be Contradicted (02/20/2009)
Faith is a psychological aspect of neural bodies (i.e. beings capable of perception) that implies the Reasoning, or Perception leading to said Reasoning, determining the actions of an organism is ultimately groundless in a conventional reality.
Of course by groundless I imply nothing more than that it is beyond Perception via any one sense.
This differs from Delusional thoughts in that, in order to consider a thought process as "Delusional" it would have to persist within a neural body despite "sensory" evidence to the contrary.
A Necessary Property of Faith (Belief) is that, because the object cannot be directly perceived with the senses, it cannot be contradicted by the senses.
With this in mind I cannot help but think "Believing something because it cannot be disproven is not a good ENOUGH reason"? Therefore some purpose would have to be served by maintaining your faith.
But I could "argue" philosophically that if "it" (Whatever belief is being discussed) exists so far beyond our perception that even mass "religious-like" groups combining their efforts cannot prove it's existence, than ultimately this belief must serve no other purpose than to (paradoxically) complicated Life matters, and persists solely because of the generations passing them down.
Another aspect of faith and this has proven very beneficial to us as a race so far,is that it is a belief that persists despite moods (not sensory evidence) to the contrary. Thus your day to day experiences cannot influence them, this helps build a sense of stability, giving a frame of reference to an individual's daily endeavors.
Therefore faith may well be necessary to build most forms of empirical knowledge. For
For the most part any concept that involves perception also allows for at least two different interpretations, (i.e. not concrete) would require faith in order to "prove" its validity.
Then newly formed concepts that are valid (The validity of conceptual ideals can change with the value system of the organism) are applied and new one's generated that include an ever-broadening "empire" that cannot function if its foundations are put into question.
The more times you deny doubt, the stronger a concept becomes, the more it permeates your perception, and therefore your memories in the long term.
My main concern on faith is that, due to its rigid nature, it's tendency to not be shaken by the sensory perceptions we depend so much on, there is little, if any room for "developmental growth".
The wealth of experience, in a faithful/spiritual person may easily rival, if not overtake that of a primarily logical (sensory) person, the very fact that both states seam to permeate our species across cultures is evidence enough of the relative success of both philosophies, But when you hold faith in explanations that cannot be proven (or disproven) eventually all of your perceptions and rationalizations will, when thrown into question through doubt, have the same root that you cannot ever correct, because you wont know (as in the case of many belief systems) that you even made the mistake until you die and it becomes irrelevant to you, and you to it...
