Familiarise Yourself With Cricket Equipment
Cricket is one of the most well known and widely played summer sports and as such
you will find it hard to escape the amount of cricket that is currently being played.
Gone are the days of county based leagues and test matches being the sole attraction. Now there are one day internationals and twenty - twenty cricket games both offering a faster more exciting version of the sport in an attempt to lure in more fans and bring more interest and new talent to the sport itself.
Cricket is also played regularly in schools and many of us grow up having played the sport during the short summer months.
One of the most important parts of playing cricket and in fact any sport, is the kit or equipment you need to be able to take part. In some sports the kits can be very simple, a pair of trainers, shorts and a t-shirt. Cricket is a little different in that the amount of cricket equipment you require to play the game is quite overwhelming. In this article we are going to look briefly at the different types of cricket equipment and its importance to the game.
Try not to let this put you off, you don't need all of the cricket equipment to start playing, in fact you can get away with playing with a few basic bits of kit to start off with. Just some cricket whites, which includes a pair of trousers, socks, white trainers with good grip, and a few cricket shirts, and of course, necessary protection. This shouldn't set you back too much and the club may even have a preferred supplier that will give you a discount to get you started.
There are of course many pieces of cricket equipment that over time you will have to collect, these will include the following; a bat, preferably made from willow with a rubber grip, plus some linseed oil to keep the wood in top condition. Then you will need all the protective cricket equipment, this includes a pair of gloves, a thigh pad, leg pads, a helmet and of course the all important cricket box.
This is quite a lot of investment in cricket equipment to make and so you will need to make sure that you're prepared to take it seriously, otherwise it will be a waste of money. However, you should also be able to borrow a lot of this cricket equipment from the club, although the quality of it will be somewhat questionable it will definitely suffice whilst you get your foothold in the game.
The best place to shop for cricket equipment is online, so take some time to search through all the different cricket equipment suppliers' websites and see if you can pick up some bargains along the way. Obviously seeing the real articles is important before you make the purchase but once you have put your mind at ease, you may be able to make a saving if you choose from an online supplier.
