Fencing In Your Property

The decision of whether or not to fence in your property is usually a no-brainer for people

. Depending on the kind of neighborhood that you live in, fencing in your property may not even be an option for you. However, when push comes to shove, most people prefer to have a fenced in property versus not.

Recently, my parents made some renovations to their home in New York following a severe storm that they experienced. The storm produced high winds, which wound up causing extensive damage to my parents home. As a result, numerous repairs to the house needed to be (and still are being) made. One of the first things that needed to be replaced was the fence.

At my parents house, we have always had wood fencing. When it was first purchased, it looked and smelled brand new. While my father never painted it, I do remember long summer days where I would spot him outside varnishing or polyurethaning the wood in order to keep it preserved as well as to prevent rotting. With wood fencing, you may preserve it for a while by following this method. However, over the long haul, the fence will not really last, and you will inevitably have to get another one.

One kind of fencing that has become extremely popular over the past few years has been vinyl fence. Often coming in shades of white, this kind of fence if usually pre-manufactured, easy to install and weather resistant. A vinyl fence has a smooth surface, which makes it really easy to paint. But more important is the fact that these kinds of fences are extremely easy to maintain and will never rust or rot like a wood fence would. If you are a parent of a small child or if you have pets, vinyl fences are great.

On the other hand, many people still prefer the look and feel of a wood fence. Not only this, but wood fences typically come with more customizable options than their vinyl and aluminum fence counterparts. Whatever you decide to do, before you do anything with regards to fencing, check with your neighbors first to get their opinion. After all, you have to live next to them and besides, you would probably want them to do the same for you, right? If you live in a subdivision or in a town community, you will want to double check with an official or whoever is in charge to verify that you arent going to be breaking any sort of codes or rules by putting up a particular type of fence.
