Finally A Playoff System Could Be Coming To College Football

This year alone five teams went undefeated, and yes the top two teams that made the

BCS championship game Texas, and Alabama do play in arguably the two best conferences in college football. That does not mean that they should automatically be considered favorites over the other three Cincinnati, TCU, and Boise State. Yes the three may play in a weaker conference but its still pretty hard for any team to go undefeated all year in any conference.

If Joe Barton Rep, from Texas is able to get this bill passed through congress, the NCAA will have no choice but to institute a playoff system or congress will step in and take control. Some people may wonder why congress is wasting their time on college football when there are more important things going on in the world, its easy college football is a multi billion-dollar business.

You have to look at the fact that teams like Ohio State, Michigan, USC, Penn State, all have stadiums that fit upward of 100,000 fans per game, yet players are not allowed to get paid so the money all goes directly back into the school. Then if a team makes one of the many bowl games the school once again receives a heavy financial payout for playing in a meaningless game. So of course the government wants to step in it puts money back into Uncle Sams pocket and makes college football fans happy.

The only argue that most people have against a playoff system is the fact that it makes a longer season for the players and makes them at risk for more injuries. But I think just about every player playing college football plays for a chance to make it to the NFL. If they do make it then they are looking at a four game preseason, followed by a 16-week regular season then if theyre lucky enough the playoffs. So the longer schedules would actual prepare those who do have a shot of making it to the next level for whats to come, while also giving those who do not have a chance of making it to the NFL one more game to prove themselves before their playing days are over.

While many may not agree it just seems that a playoff system is the only way a team can actually say we are the national champions. I mean every other sport in college has playoffs, soccer, baseball, volleyball, and lets not forget college basketballs March Madness tournament that brings joy to every office. Each year millions of people fill out brackets trying to predict the final championship game only to have their hearts broken to some Cinderella team. Imagine the excitement it would be to watch the top 16 college teams battle it out for four weeks in a playoff system to decide a real national champion once and for all.
