Finding A Reason To Consistently Exercise
Staying motivated to exercise can be quite a challenge when the weather is bad
, the fees expensive, or you simply feel so tired all of the time. There are many other reasons that exercising can become difficult on occasion as well.
During these times it becomes very important that you find something that motivates you to continue exercising. In this article, there will be many ideas that you can try that may help you find your motivation to exercise.
It is likely that some may help you and some may not. Everyone is different and therefore has to find his or her own methods to motivate themselves.
One of the first things you may want to try is joining a group or community that enjoys exercising for similar reasons as you do. For example, if you absolutely love running you may want to join up with several other people who love running and run together.
Or, if your primary goal through exercising is to lose weight, you may want to join an online community that can send you motivating messages and encourage you in your quest to lose weight. The support of others can go a long way in helping you stay motivated to exercise.
In addition, if you work out with someone, he or she will hold you responsible for the days that you try to skip working out. More likely than not, you will be less inclined not to work out simply because you are tired or less energetic than usual.
If joining a group like this still does not provide enough motivation for you to exercise, you can even take it up a step. Some fitness groups have the additional goal of raising money for charity.
For example, they may host a walk-a-thon and get people to sponsor the walkers. Then, for every mile the walker walks, the sponsor will donate a certain amount of money to charity.
There are many other ways in which money is raised through exercise as well. Perhaps finding one of these groups would help you stay motivated to exercise because you will also be doing it for a good cause.
However, working out with a group or even one friend is not something that everyone enjoys. If you prefer to work out by yourself, you may want to try to do something to entertain yourself.
For example, many people love to listen to music as they exercise. The lively beat of their music helps them set a pace and stick to it throughout the workout.
Others enjoy working out in the privacy of their own homes on a treadmill, elliptical, stationary bike or other home machines. These people may enjoy watching their favorite television show or reading a book while they work out.
Some people enjoy listening to a book on tape while they work out as well. If the book or television show is particularly good and you only allow yourself to listen, watch, or read it while you are exercise, it can be very motivating to exercise.
If you have been fighting against working out for a long time you have probably come up with a list of excuses that you commonly use. You may want to try taking some time to sit down and write down this list of excuses.
Then, come up with a response to the excuse that will motivate you to exercise. This way when you hear the excuse ringing in your head, it is immediately killed by your response.
Another reason that many people do not exercise as much as they should is because of time constraints. The lives of many Americans are very fast paced and busy.
It is important to cut time costs where possible and exercise seems like one of those areas where you can cut time costs to many people. However, exercise should not be one of the areas through which you can cut time costs.
You can condense the time that it takes to exercise by making sure that your exercise clothes are ready to go or through following other methods. If you have children that need to be watched, you may want to invest in a home machine such as a treadmill, elliptical or stationary bicycle where you can watch them while you work out.
Or you may want to find another mother who also would like to work out and has children to swap babysitting with. In addition, you will set a good example for your children as you exercise consistently.
This may motivate them to incorporate exercising into their lives at an earlier age than you began exercising. Children do not have to be an excuse to not exercise and in fact they can be a good reason to exercise.
In the future, it is likely that you will want to be able to go out and play soccer with your sons or help your daughter practice volleyball. Most likely you will not be able to do this if you do not consistently exercise as you age.
