It penetrates into the pores and kills the bacteria below the surface that washing might miss, and makes the affected skin slough off faster. This in turn speeds the healing. A small part of people do have allergies to benzyl peroxide, and others are sensitive to it. Lower concentrations can avoid these problems. Salicylic acid is an excellent substitute for those that are overly sensitive to benzyl peroxide or who have serious allergic reactions to it.

Acne is a bigger problem than just a few pimples. It is possible in more extreme cases that a more aggressive acne treatment maybe necessary. Bacteria can cause infection and bigger skin problems than just common acne. Also hormone fluctuations in the teenage years makes a worse case of acne a distinct possibility.

If the acne becomes serious it maybe necessary to see a dermatologist for acne treatments that work. Prescription strength retinol, antibiotics and Isotretinoin are all medications that may help clear up your skin.

Many people resort to seeing a dermatologist for their severe acne. He is an expert at what is causing skin problems and the best treatment that would clear it up. The medications he uses are by prescription and enerally contain a higher strength formula of what you can get over the counter.

It is necessary to find acne treatments that work for you. What works for one person may not work for you. It is best to not try and tackle extreme cases yourself. Find a good dermatologist that can figure out why you are having the problem and the best way to treat it.
