Quite a lot of musicians will work as cover bands, or do things like weddings and school proms to make a buck, and writers will sell their work writing things they have little interest in just to gain notoriety and bring in the cash as well. You never know how far your talent may take you these days, as the avenues to exposure on a grand scale or more plentiful than they use to be. From Youtube to American Idol there are many roads to success these days. The best thing you can do is try your hand at as many paths as possible and see where it leads. If it never works out for you, so be it, you can return to your boring nine to five day job and keep singing on the weekends.
