Finding Your Strengths
If I asked you "what are you good at?", what would you reply
?
Many people feel really embarrassed about talking about their own strengths even though they deep inside feel like there are some things that they are good at. They worry that others may think that they are boosting if they talk about their strengths, or they worry that others may disagree and think that they instead are really bad at doing what they consider themselves good at. Other people wish they had something to feel proud of but they honestly cannot think of a single thing that they are good at.
Its difficult to feel like a worthy person if you dont think that there is much that you are good at. In other words, it is difficult to have self-esteem without self-confidence. (Self-esteem = sense of personal worth, self-confidence = feeling that you can accomplish things.)
So lets find out what YOU are good at!
- When you were a little kid, what did you love doing?
- What kind of compliments do you receive from your friends?
- What does your family appreciate you for?
- In what situations do you get so excited that you dont notice time passing?
- What topics do you love speaking about?
- What makes you feel really calm and happy?
- What do others ask you for help with?
Did these questions raise any thoughts? Each of us has some qualities that come naturally to us, qualities that we may take for granted. We may not realise that we can so some things easily while others struggle when they try to do the same.
Tip: Keep a diary when you write down all accomplishments that youve done every day before going to bed. Make sure you write down the small things as well, such as I gave my friend a compliment or I smiled at the old lady in the supermarket, not only the big obvious accomplishments. You will realise that you accomplish a lot more than you think!
