Five Of The Best West End Shows
Whenever a visit to London takes place, it is always strongly recommended to see
one of the many different West End productions that are available all throughout the year. From film adaptations to world famous musicals, some of the most famous theatrical shows are on offer in the many theatres around London, with a show to suit everyone's different tastes
Lion King. The stage show version of the hit 1994 Disney movie of the same name, the Lion King is brought to life spectacularly with fantastic visuals, including costumes and puppetry, adding a very magical twist to an already wonderful story.
Taking place in the Lyceum Theatre on Wellington Street, close to Covent Garden, the Lion King, although a Disney story aimed at children when first released, is very much a family orientated production, if not just for the adults to sit in awe at how the whole stage show comes together.
The Phantom Of The Opera. One of the most famous productions of all time, the Phantom of the Opera is a musical based on the early 20th century French novel by Gaston Leroux about an actress who falls for a disfigured and reticent operatic persona. Created by the multi-award winning and world famous Andrew Lloyd Webber, it is still running as one of the most popular musicals ever at Her Majesty's Theatre in Haymarket and has had over 9000 shows at this theatre alone.
Jersey Boys. Showcasing the history of Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons in two and a half hours, Jersey Boys is full of recognisable music from the 1960s and with outfits, hairstyles and make up to match, it makes for a somewhat nostalgic and extremely interesting production.
Starting initially in San Diego in 2004, it moved to Broadway, New York in 2005 and the show had travelled to Londons West End by early 2008, where it has been running ever since. Whilst it may be somewhat adult orientated (primarily due to the swearing that is used), it is massively popular and is regularly recommended as a must-see production.
Blood Brothers. A story of two brothers separated at birth who, after being brought up in different social classes, fall in love with the same girl, Blood Brothers was first shown in a London theatre 1988 and is as popular today as it was when it first opened. Scooping a range of major awards for Best Musical, two decades on and Blood Brothers is widely regarded as one of the most successful West End plays ever to be produced.
Dirty Dancing. Similar to the Lion King, Dirty Dancing is a stage show reproduction of a massively famous film and has received rave reviews and sold out shows since it opened in October 2006, where it sold a greater amount of pre-sale tickets than any other show in the history of the West End theatre productions.
Shown at the Aldwych Theatre, a particularly popular London theatre, Dirty Dancing features all of the songs from the original film, including favourites Stay and Be My Girl, as well as the unforgettable Ive Had The Time Of My Life. It may be one of the more expensive West End shows to currently purchased tickets for, but it is regarded as one of the most popular to ever have been on the West End.
