It would be much easier to list the games that have not been postponed than those that have been, and that is testament to the UK's inability to handle a few inches of snow, particularly when it comes to the sports arenas. The main annoyance is that everyone knew it was coming, but little, or even nothing was done to prepare or combat what was to come. The Bundesliga in Germany, requires that all stadiums have undersoil heating should extreme weather arrive without notice, let alone having a weeks notice. Snow ploughs are on the streets of Germany moments after the snow falls and gritters are constanly driving all over the place much like we have caravans in England. The result of this weather will not truly be felt until March and April where teams are likely to be playing three times a week in the hope of catching up. This will really affect those in Europe and perhaps even the England team before they travel to South Africa, if any more games are postponed then it may be that fixtures are placed after the FA Cup meaning later travel plans, and perhaps, unfortunately, injuries near an important time in the year. There is nothing now that can be done, the key is that something is learned from this. Contingency plans must be put in order so at least football from the top two divisions can go ahead. One hates to think of the cost of these cancellations, the police who will soon be far overworked come April, and the long term effect it will have the footballing economy.
