Onions Excited About The Great Ashes
Woodworm have recently signed Graham Onions and he has certainly lived up to the worm
. He has retained his place the Ashes Opener and he was on great form.
The 26-year-old beat off competition from his Durham team-mate Steve Harmison, who like himself also impressed in a warm-up match for England Lions against Australia this week.
Onions said: "It's absolutely unbelievable."I feel I have learned a lot from the two games I have played and the Lions game just gone.
"It shows the hard work does pay off eventually.
"It is all exciting times, the Australians are ahead of us and bring it on.
"It's quite hard to think from last winter that I'm in the squad and I just can't wait. I'm really looking forward to it." Onions admits his confidence is high after a strong start to the summer.
He added: "I feel everything is clicking. I'm pitching the ball up and doing a lot more with it.
"The work which I have done in the winter has paid off. I feel fit and strong and when you get wickets your confidence is sky high. I'll be taking that into the game."
Onions also paid tribute to Harmison. The pair may have been rivals for a place in the squad but Onions still views him as a great inspiration and a good friend to whom he can turn for advice.
"I can't speak highly enough of Steve Harmison," Onions said.
"When he left the ground yesterday he said he was just a phone call away, which is great. He has played 60-odd Test matches and I have got to look up to him for advice.
"Steve has helped me so much in my career as well but I have been selected in that first Test squad and I have got to make the most of it."
Woodworm Signs Graham Onions
Woodworm are now proudly sponsoring an England cricket star Graham Onions. Woodworm have recently taken on the right arm fast bowler this week ready for the Ashes.
The 27 year old from Gateshead currently plays for Durham and is now playing for England in 2009 Ashes. Onions is also a talented right hand tail end batsmen.
Onions had his first England call-up in 2006 when he faced Pakistan. Darren Gough had an injury so Onions had some big shoes to fill.
Later he was named in England's provisional 30 man squad for the 2006 ICC Champions Trophy. He had a very successful year in 2006 and was valued by coach Peter Moores. In 2007 he was selected for the England Lions team.
Onoins has struggled with injury in 2009 and finally returned playing for Stockton against Tamworth in which they lost. However on 29th April 2009 he was named in England Squad for the test series against West Indies.
In July 2009 he was named as part of the provisional sixteen man squad to face Australia in the Ashes, once again at the expense of his Durham team-mate Steve Harmison.
