Five Rules You Should Follow When Buying School Shoes

Buying school shoes is a lot more difficult than it first appears

. Many factors play a part in making what should be an easy task become something of a nightmare. The following therefore are 5 simple rules to consider when you decide to buy your child a pair of school shoes for the new school year. So without further ado:

1) Go Early - But Not Too Early!

When shopping for school it is better to go early to get them. This gives you a much more hassle free shop and also provides you with more choice. There is nothing worse than rushing to buy something when most shops are out of stock which is a likely occurrence if you go the week before school starts!

By going a bit earlier it also gives your child more time to break the shoes in before the school year starts allowing them to fit more comfortably. Your child won't thank you if their first day back at school if plagued by irritation and pains caused by uncomfortable shoes.

However make sure you don't go too early as there is every chance your child could have a growth spurt meaning that by the time school starts again the shoes will no longer fit resulting in a big fat waste of money!

2) Go In The Afternoon!

It is well known that your feet expand slightly throughout the day due to heat and moisture build up. For this reason to get the best idea on whether a pair of shoes fit comfortably it is best trying them on when your fit are at their 'thickest' which is generally the afternoon.

Also along the same lines make sure your child wears the thick wintery socks that they will be wearing come the colder months of the school year. This way you will know for sure that a few months down the line they should still be comfortable!

3) Don't Just Look For Shoes!

Buying school shoes for teenagers can be a bit of a challenge for parents to say the least. If you are reading this and are a proud parent of a teenager then you will know all too well that it matters a great deal to them what they have on their feet. Simply picking a pair of those reliable black school shoes that have served you well over the years is unfortunately not going to suffice any longer. Fear not however as in this day and age you are not restricted to just shoes and most schools give a lot of leeway on the kinds of footwear that they allow.

For starters trainers these days come in a great range of styles including smart casual ranges that are ideal for school. Brands such as Converse and Vans have a great range of black trainers that are very stylish and yet can still easily pass for school shoes.

For girls you can also look at smart and stylish sandals and flip flops. Schools these days are becoming less stringent on sandals especially in the summer months and some sandals and flip flops are still smart enough to pass for 'school shoes' which would certainly keep girls happier. However remember that a lot of the school year takes place during colder months and so you will need to invest in a pair of shoes or trainers also!

Note although many schools are more lenient about school shoes it does not mean all schools are so you should still check with your school first before buying either trainers or flip flips.

4) Invest in Separate Sports Shoes

Although this can rack up the price it is worth buying a pair of shoes specifically for sports. Even if you have bought trainers it is still worthwhile buying a cheaper pair of shoes purely for sports as they will undergo a lot of wear and tear. For boys in particular one of the ideal sport shoes to buy are black astro-turf trainers. They are extremely robust and naturally are great for football and provide the necessary protection when running around and can also pass for school shoes as well!

5) Be Prepared to Through All This Again...and Soon!

Unfortunately for many reasons you are most likely going to have to buy a new pair of school shoes each term. Unless you take extra care of them (because lets face it your kids won't) there is a chance that after a period of 10 weeks or more they would have worn in quite a bit which can cause discomfort and also cause water to leak through. Top this off with the fact that your child's feet grow at an alarming rate and you can see why you may have to dip into your pockets again.

Well that about sums this up. Again all these points may seem obvious to some however it is worth having a bit more knowledge on buying school shoes especially if you are new to it all.
