Five Tips For Searching For A Keyless Entry Remote

When searching for a keyless entry remote for your car

, there are a number of different search options that websites offer you to help find the correct remote for your car. There's a lot of different remotes out there, so being able to find the one you are looking for quickly can save you some time and hassle. Keep the following strategies in mind when searching for your keyless entry remote.

Use website search features.

You don't have to go straight from search engine to shopping cart. Many of the bigger websites offer a variety of search functions to help you find the keyless entry remote you're looking for. These functions have the advantage of being built with the site's specific database in mind, so taking advantage of them may be the most efficient way to find your keyless entry remote.

Use the FCCID or Manufacturer's Part Number.

If you know the keyless remote's FCCID number or manufacturer's part number, several sites can bring the remote up with them, rather than requiring you to browse. These numbers can sometimes be located on the back of the remote, if you are replacing one.

Keep an eye on the pictures.

If you have a keyless entry remote for your vehicle already (you are replacing it, for example), check the images to make sure you are looking at the right remote. Especially pay attention to the buttons on each remote; some vehicles have different remotes with different functions (one might not have power side doors, another may not have a trunk button, etc).

Do you want Aftermarket or Factory?

Aftermarket remotes are more generic remotes, but still work fine. Factory remotes are created more specifically for the vehicle. Most keyless entry remote sites make a distinction, so you may want to pick which one you want before you search.

When in doubt: Year, Make, Model.

Probably the most common way to search for a keyless entry remote is to simply enter the year, make, and model of the vehicle. If you don't know the FCCID or PN of the remote, this is the easiest method for bringing up the remote you want.
