Five Tips For Speeding Up Your Metabolism
Five Tips For Speeding Up Your Metabolism
Isn`t it "the dream"? To have a souped up metabolism that works at his highest level all day long. And wouldn`t it be great if there was a tablet that you could take that kept it revved up and burning all those extra calories, so you`d never have to watch your weight again? Yep, it certainly would, but you know what there isn`t. So I have written (in no particular order) a list of my top 5 tips for keeping your metabolism operating at its optimum.
1) EXERCISE Movement, activity, anything that gets your body up off the couch. It doesn`t matter what it is so long as you enjoy it, otherwise it will just end up as a flash in the pan that you won`t stick with. Almost every fat loss system there is, points out how important exercise is but it`s the one thing that people don`t want to do. They will look for any way out they can to avoid it, but I can guarantee that if they do manage to lose weight (by some miracle) they won`t keep it off.
2) EAT REGULARLY It`s absolute nonsense to try and stick with three meals each day and lose weight steadily. Every time you eat, your metabolism increases to cope with the extra food and so eating little and often really is THE best way to keep that metabolism speeding up.
3) THE RIGHT FOODS There are some foods that squish your metabolism down to basement level and some foods that push it up through the roof. So it`s not hard to work out that by eating the "good" foods, you will maintain a higher metabolism which will make losing weight a whole lot easier. And will keep you fuller for longer, so that you don`t want to eat the "other" stuff.
4) DON`T OVERHEAT Yes that was supposed to read like that (although don`t overeat would be appropriate also). By keeping the temperature around your house a little lower than you normally would, your body (and therefore your metabolism) has to work that bit harder to keep you warmer.
5) SPICY FOODS Although this is quite a new idea, there is evidence that points towards "hotter" foods such as Chillis as being responsible for increaseing the metabolism. So certainly worth a try! An added advantage to this one, is that you will have to drink lots of water to cool down. Bonus!
Eating spicy food gets your blood pumping faster and raises your temperature, which means your body has to work harder. 'Studies show that eating chillis can raise the metabolism by as much as 20%,' says food scientist Kumud Gandhi, founder of The Cooking Academy
'Eating garlic can increase your metabolic rate by as much as 30%,' says Kumud Gandhi. 'It's also great for aiding digestion, and is known to lower cholesterol and blood pressure
Taking steps to tackle stress will have a big effect on your metabolism, too. 'When you're stressed, your body releases cortisol - the hormone responsible for regulating fat, metabolism and blood sugar levels,' says Ali Campbell. 'This results in lowered metabolism, increased appetite and unhealthy food cravings.' The solution? Take time out to relax and plan to tackle stress head-on.
