Five Tips To Get Fit This Winter Without Breaking The Bank
Although there are various times throughout the year that are more expensive than
others for different people (for example, parents with young children often say that the summer months are particularly expensive, as they have to keep their children entertained during the whole summer holidays), the one time that everyone can agree on as being expensive is Christmas.
With your outgoings generally increasing from October as you start making preparations and buying presents right until the New Year, as you're attending Christmas and New Year parties, many need to cut back on certain outgoings.
Often looking at the costs that leave their bank account which aren't absolute necessities, this usually means health and fitness outgoings are put on the back burner for a few weeks.
Never a good idea, but especially not during the winter period as it's so easy to pile on the pounds, these five tips show you can get fit this winter without breaking the bank.
1. Make your own soup. Lots of it - one of the most costly outgoings during winter can be your food bills, unless you sit down and plan how you can keep your payments low.
To keep your bills low, the ideal solution would be to be able to buy basic, cheap items in bulk and create something from them that will not only cover several meals, but also be able to be kept in the fridge or freezer for later, when it can be reheated.
And soup does just that.
Meaning you simply throw in a selection of your favourite vegetables into a pan with some water and a stock cube, give it 30 minutes and after you've blended it, you have yourself a beautiful, hearty and healthy meal.
2. Exercise indoors - if you can't afford to go to the gym throughout winter, that doesn't mean that you have to stop exercising. All you have to do instead is look at how you can replace the exercises you carry out in the gym with exercises at home and this is a lot easier than you think.
For example, sit ups, press ups and bicep curls are all easy to do at home with just a bit of thought.
3. Get outside on your lunch break - although going outside during the winter is something that isn't particularly appealing, if you can spend some of your lunch break outside, wrapped up and walking around, you'll instantly be able to add 15 to 30 minutes of walking into your daily exercise routine.
4. Eat a hot a breakfast - warming you up and helping you to release energy throughout the morning, having a breakfast of hot porridge or grilled bacon and poached eggs is a fantastic way to start the day during the summer months.
5. Ditch the tea and coffee - a hot drink does wonders to warm you up and make you feel better when the temperature drops, but most people often opt for tea or coffee, which although will warm you up and give you a bit of a boost, can not only be expensive, but once you start adding milk and sugar, not particularly healthy, either.
Rather than switching to cold drinks, opt for a mug of hot water with a spoonful of honey and a splash of lemon. Sweet enough to give you a boost and hot enough to make you warm, it's also healthy enough for you to drink as much as you want.
