2. The next thing you'll want to make sure is that the home is in a pleasant area. If you have children, then this becomes an even bigger issue. But even if it's just you, living somewhere that you feel safe in and can feel proud to be located is something to consider.

3. If you do have children, you may also want to look into what the local schools are like and how easy it will be for your children to get there in a morning. Would you be driving them or could they walk, for instance? Even if you're a young couple who plan on having children one day, this may be a consideration.

4. You may be keen to make sure that you are conveniently located to amenities, such as a store to by essentials and a paper. Or, if you like takeaway foods, plenty of good local restaurants.

5. When it comes to the house itself, you will have a number of personal preferences that you wish to consider. These could include wanting a particular style of house or having modern fittings. Equally, you may want a back garden or a specific number of bedrooms. The important things is to make a list of everything you want from a home and use this to identify potential properties.
