Following in the Footsteps of the Corby: The Samsung Lindy M5650
While it does have quite a striking resemblance with the Corby
, the new Samsung Lindy M5650 is an altogether different mobile phone. Well, aside from its overall design, it still shares a number of similarities with the Corby perhaps none more apparent than the twos target market. However, one can make a case that the Lindy can actually be seen as an upgraded version of the relatively successful Corby. With a couple of new and improved features on board, Samsung is set to wow the entry level market yet again with the new Lindy M5650. Lookalike In terms of the physical design, it would be quite difficult to tell the difference between the Lindy and the Corby. Unless youve actually been using the Corby as your primary mobile phone, you could very easily mistake the one for the other. However, if you take a closer look at the two you should be able to realize that the Lindy pretty much looks like an upgraded version of the Corby. The advancements in the functions department is the main reason why the Lindy is a bit bulkier than the Corby, albeit only a couple of millimeters here and there. The Lindy measures 106 x 57 x 12 mm and weighs a total of 98 grams while the Corby is more compact at 103 x 56.5 x 12 mm, and a little lighter at only 90 grams. As for the screen, the Corby and the Lindy have the exact same touch screen displays. Both measure 2.8 inches, sport the TFT capacitive touch screen technology, and has the pixel resolution 240 x 320 pixels and can display up to 256K colours. Pretty much a carbon copy. Upgraded The two major improvements on the Samsung Lindy M5650 are its 3G functionality and its ability to connect to the internet via Wi-Fi. As for the former, the Lindy is compatible with the 1900 and 2100 band of the 3G network. Aside from faster connectivity speeds, this also allows the use of video calling for you to actually see who youre speaking with at the other end of the line. WLAN has also been added on the Lindy which means that you can check your email or visit your favourite websites in any Wi-Fi hotspot around the world. The Lindys built-in camera has also received a bit of an upgrade from a 2-Megapixel snapper on the M5650 to a much-improved 3-MP one. Autofocus is a welcome feature as is its capability to snap stills at a maximum pixel rate of 2048 x 1536 pixels. The Bigger Brother The Samsung Lindy M5650 can definitely be seen as the Corbys bigger brother. It takes on all of the best features of the Corby and adds two new crucial functions that make it comparable to other high-end Smartphones in the industry today. While it may be a bit more expensive than the Corby (retail value is somewhere in the 150-pound region) it is still a very affordable touch screen device that allows the entry level market to experience (somewhat) the cutting edge technology of the likes of the Apple iPhone 3GS.
